Requirements Verification for C2 Link Systems
The purpose of this section is to help the C2 Link System applicants understand the
underlying assumptions and facts about verifying the requirements for C2 Link Systems
given in Section 3. The audience for Section 4 is applicant personnel that have in-depth
familiarity with verification procedures, experience producing satisfactory verification
plans and reports, and a prior history of carrying out measurements on electronics bound
for deployment on aircraft. Section 4 deals with three requirement types, Performance,
Security and Interworking.
The applicant is required to provide their own infrastructure bench test suite set -up
with the Signal in Space Emulators (SISE) used in the development and testing of their
Ground Radio System (GRS)/Ground Earth Station (GES) equipment and UA
Airborne Radio System (ARS)/Airborne Earth Station (AES) equipment. These
equipment would provide the signal sources for C2 Link System verification testing.
The applicant is required to provide any CS or UA emulators necessary to configure
the C2 Link System for verification testing. This enables the applicant to demonstrate
custom or proprietary interfaces.
The applicant is to provide any necessary ancillary test equipment such as signal
generators, meters, signal analyzers to assess (RF measurements), and logic analyzers
(to analyze digital signals).
For the IRs, these verification procedures address the Control Messages and User Data
Messages over the C2 Link System.
The applicant needs sufficient
elements/systems/of their C2 Link System RF chain (GRS/GES, ARS/AES) in order
to conduct C2 Link System link Switchover operations.
Performance Requirement Verification
This section provides methods for verifying that a C2 Link System meets the Performance
Requirements (PRs) identified in Section 3. These include Latency, Availability,
Continuity and Integrity and are specified in Tables 3-17, 3-18, 3-19 and 3-20, and
defined/derived in APPENDIX D of this MASPS. These performance verification
methods can be used in the initial C2 Link System operational approval , through
development and test, and in-service performance monitoring and analysis. Alternative
verification methods may be applicable if they are shown to have equivalent capability of
There exist four types of methods that are acceptable for verification of the performance
requirements contained in this MASPS. They are described as follows.
Measurement — Performance requirements are verified through actual measurements
collected in a representative operational environment.
Inspection — An appropriate entity, such as the FAA certifier, with necessary technical
expertise in C2 Link Systems, reviews the C2 Link System documents, provided by the
applicant, for their technical accuracy, completeness , and compliance with the performance
Analysis — Analytical methods are used to verify that the performance parameters are met
when they cannot be directly measured from the operational system within a realistic time
