Reset the ELT unit, except for ELT(DT), and decrease the chamber pressure to 6,9
KPa (1 psi) within a period of 25 seconds and hold for 10 minutes. Increase the
chamber pressure to ambient within a period of 2.5 minutes, activate the ELT unit,
except for ELT(DT), and test for compliance with the aliveness test.
Except for ELT(DT), repeat the above test with the ELT 'OFF' and ensure that the ELT
is not activated by the test.
At the completion of each stage of the test, ensure that all mechanical devices operate
Overpressure (Optional for ELT(AD))
Perform the test contained in ED-14G/DO-160G, § 4.6.3.
The ELT system shall be switched to “ARMED” or “OFF” in the case of an ELT(S)
without water sensor.
After being subjected to this test,
the ELT unit must not have activated,
establish compliance with the specifications of the aliveness test.
At the completion of this test, ensure that all mechanical devices operate satisfactorily.
Perform the test contained in ED-14G/DO-160G, Section 15.0.
The ELT(DT) shall be activated before the test. Determine the magnetic effect of the
ELT system and establish that it meets the specifications of the category to which it is

ELT(DT) shall be activated before the test and the ELT system shall meet at least ED-
14G/DO-160G Section 15.0 category B.
For ELT(AD), unintended deployment shall be considered a failed test.
The following paragraphs describe testing of the ELT system to ensure compatibility
with the aircraft electrical system. These tests apply only to those portions (if any) of
the ELT system connected to the aircraft electrical system, (e.g.: Remote Monitor).
The tests do not apply to solely battery-powered portions of the ELT system. The
application of the Power Input test shall not activate nor deactivate the ELT unit.
When subjected to this test, for the category corresponding to the type of aircraft
electrical supply system used, the ELT system shall meet the specifications of the
following paragraphs for Normal Operating Conditions (ED-14G/DO-160G § 16.5.1 or
§ 16.6.1) and shall not result in an activation during the tests. After completion of the
test, the § 4.3.1 Aliveness Test shall be performed, except for ELT(DT) for which the
transmission performances shall not be affected by the test conditions as
demonstrated by the aliveness test § 4.3.1 a), b) and h).
When subjected to the Abnormal Operating Conditions of the power supply (ED-
14G/DO-160G, § 16.5.2 and § 16.6.2), the applicable performance standards are cited
in § 4.3.1 Aliveness Test except for ELT(DT), for which the transmission performances
shall not be affected by the test conditions.
Degradation in ELT system performance is permissible (e.g.: remote Indicator may not
function) provided that:
an ELT unit in the ARMED condition is neither activated nor reset to OFF, and
an activated ELT unit is not de-activated, ELT(AD) are not unintentionally
the ELT system resumes normal operation when the power supply operating
conditions are returned to normal except for ELT(DT), for which the
transmission performances shall not be affected by the test conditions,
and correct deployment for ELT(AD) is verified upon test completion by
stimulating the deployment sensor.
