TIA – Telecommunications Industry Association (http://www.tiaonline.org/), a US standards body which
sets standards for structured cable plants, telephone equipment, radio and cellular equipment,
telecommunications rooms, and other telecom-related fields.
TIG SCEPACS – Technical Implementation Guidance for Smart Card Enabled Physical Access Control
Systems developed by the Physical Access Interagency Interoperability Working Group (PAIIWG).
Token – Physical artifact produced (via hardware/software) to interface with PACS and house PKI
certificate (if required). A "token" is an authentication tool, a device utilized to send and receive challenges
and responses during the user authentication process.
TR – Telecommunications Room, often incorrectly also called telecom closet.
Transaction – A record created that contains pertinent information about an occurrence in the access
control and monitoring system.
Trusted Agent – A model for identity vetting that allows separate systems to share a common trust model
for establishing the identity of an individual.
TSA – Transportation Security Administration; the (US) federal division of the Department of Homeland
Security with specific jurisdiction over civil aviation security following the enactment of the Aviation
Transportation Security Act (2001)
TSDB - Terrorist Screening Database; Averaging 1,600 names nominated for addition, 600 for removal,
and 4,800 for correction – daily - the TSDB includes some 400,000 names authorities have a “reasonable
suspicion” are tied to terrorism, including over 1 million entries (for all aliases) used to compile numerous
watch lists and screening systems.

Two-Factor Authentication – Two-factor authentication is based on ‘something a user knows’ (factor
one) plus ‘something the user has’ (factor two). In order to access a network, the user must have both

languages (symbologies); the original barcode widely used in the United States and Canada identifying
inventory in retail locations.
