HD – High definition video, a type of video derived from broadcast tele3cision standards, with higher
resolution than standard CCTV video (usually at least 1024 x 768 pixels) and formatted for 16:9 widescreen
Hologram – The advanced photographic technique recording images in three dimensions and used to
optically store and retrieve information.
HSA – Homeland Security Act of 2002 (Public Law 107.296 §301, 116 Stat. 2135/2163 (2002) that
provides a framework to coordinate federal government civilian efforts.
HSPD-12 – (US) Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 assigned responsibility for setting standards
for the identification to be shown by persons entering federal government buildings. FIPS 201 was
developed to satisfy this requirement
HSSAI – Homeland Security Studies and Analysis Institute operated by Analytic Services Inc. on behalf
of the US Department of Homeland Security, is a federally-funded research and development center
(FFRDC) providing independent analyses of homeland security issues.
Hybrid Card – Includes two or more integrated circuits (ICs) that do not interact with one another.
Hybrid Gateways – An unusual configuration with routers that maintain the complete state of the TCP/IP
connections or examine the traffic to try to detect and prevent attack. If very complicated it is difficult to
attach; and, difficult to maintain and audit
Hz – One cycle per second
IaaS – Infrastructure-as-a -Service providers offer computers - physical or (more often) virtual machines -
and other resources in the most basic of cloud configurations and sometimes including virtual-machine disk
image library, raw (block) and file-based storage, firewalls, load balancers, IP addresses, virtual local area
networks (VLANs), and software bundles on-demand from their large pools installed in data centers.
IEC – International Electro-technical Commission, a primary standards development and issuance
organization based in Geneva, Switzerland.
ICA – A proprietary, three-part, server-based computing protocol for an application server system,
designed by Citrix Systems that separates an application's logic from its user interface and allows 100%
application execution on the server.
ICAO – International Civil Aviation Organization, a precursor and later specialized agency of the United
Nations since 1944, is the permanent body charged with the administration of the principles laid out in its
Convention and sets the standards for aviation safety, security, efficiency and regularity, and aviation
environmental protection. ICAO acts as the global standards and recommended practices coordination body
in these matters in cooperation with governments pursuant to their laws, regulations and domestic programs
and on behalf of the United Nations.
